Reporting to the Director of Medicaid Strategy & Policy, the Medicaid Account Executive is responsible for developing and executing strategic engagement plans with State Medicaid agencies within their assigned geography. This role focuses on cultivating relationships with key state stakeholders, influencers, and policy leaders to optimize access to Biogen portfolio products while supporting Biogen’s sales and profitability objectives within the State Medicaid channel.

The Medicaid Account Executive will identify emerging policy, reimbursement, and access opportunities and coordinate internal resources to proactively address customer needs. Success in this role requires strong knowledge of Medicaid policy and reimbursement dynamics, strategic account planning, and the ability to collaborate across internal and external stakeholders to ensure appropriate patient access.

Key responsibilities:

  • State Engagement & Strategic Account Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive engagement strategies for State Medicaid agencies across the assigned territory; Map key stakeholders and cultivate relationships with state policymakers, Medicaid leadership, and other relevant influencers; Provide customers with timely, accurate, and relevant product and access information to support appropriate patient access to Biogen portfolio products; Represent Biogen at key state forums, industry meetings, and conferences, including attendance at State Medicaid Drug Utilization Review (DUR) and Pharmaceutical & Therapeutics (P&T) meetings.
  • Account Management & Stakeholder Influence: Identify and engage key state-level decision-makers and influencers who shape coverage, reimbursement, and policy decisions; Incorporate stakeholder insights into account plans to support strategic engagement and access objectives; Monitor policy developments, reimbursement trends, and state-level initiatives that may impact product access.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with internal teams, including Regional Account Teams, Medical Affairs, Public Policy & Government Affairs (PPGA), and Advocacy, to support a coordinated Medicaid strategy; Collaborate with field and headquarters teams to ensure alignment on state engagement strategies and customer needs.
  • Policy Monitoring & Strategic Insight: Monitor emerging Medicaid policies, coding and reimbursement changes, and broader state healthcare trends that impact the Medicaid eco-system; Anticipate access challenges and identify opportunities to support coverage and appropriate utilization within your geographic area; Communicate key insights and potential business implications to Director of Medicaid Policy & Strategy to inform strategic planning.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate possesses extensive expertise in State Medicaid, with a specific focus on public policy and healthcare policy development. They have a strong understanding of Medicaid policy, reimbursement structures, and market access strategies, particularly in specialty pharmaceuticals. This candidate demonstrates exceptional strategic thinking, business acumen, and the ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to both internal and external stakeholders. They excel at building relationships with state policymakers and influencers, collaborating across cross-functional teams, and effectively managing multiple strategic priorities in the evolving State Medicaid segment of business.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in State Medicaid account management, public policy, or healthcare policy development.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing market access or health policy strategies with exposure to the operational and policy mechanics of state Medicaid programs.
  • Experience working with specialty pharmaceuticals, reimbursement, and payer access strategies, including interactions with specialty pharmacy providers and specialty distributors preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Medicaid policy, reimbursement structures, and access dynamics.
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and business acumen, with the ability to assess policy developments and translate them into actionable business insights.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and succinctly with both internal stakeholders and external decision-makers.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working across commercial, medical, policy, and advocacy teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple strategic priorities independently and execute effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of healthcare policy trends and the evolving Medicaid landscape.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $204,000.00-$281,000.00


Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity.
