Assistant Controller

About Climb:

Climb Bio is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing therapeutics for patients with immune-mediated diseases. Our product candidates include budoprutug, an anti-CD19 monoclonal antibody that presents us with an exciting opportunity given its broad potential applicability across a number of B-cell mediated diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus, immune thrombocytopenia, and membranous nephropathy and CLYM116, an anti-APRIL monoclonal antibody in development for IgA nephropathy.

At Climb Bio, our team has a knack for seeing what no one else sees—and a drive to achieve results no one expects. We believe that our combined strength conquers any summit, and our core values – Build Trust, Decide & Commit, Accelerate Impact, and Mark the Moment – guide how we work, collaborate and innovate. They reflect our commitment to patients, each other, and the pursuit of transformative science. We are seeking a hands-on Assistant Controller. Reporting to the SVP of Finance, this individual will own the operational accounting engine that powers the company’s financial reporting – leading the close, maintaining controls, SOX compliance, managing equity administration, and ensuring the company is audit-ready at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Accounting & Close

  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Review journal entries and reconciliations; prepare and review financial statements for internal and reporting purposes
  • Ensure accurate accounting for R&D costs, clinical trial accruals, stock-based compensation, and collaborations
  • Maintain and evolve the general ledger and chart of accounts as the company grows

Equity Administration

  • Own end-to-end equity administration, including cap table maintenance and coordination with the equity platform
  • Prepare stock-based compensation calculations and related journal entries
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Finance, Legal, and HR on equity-related matters
  • Ensure accurate and timely equity reporting to support both internal needs and external audit

SOX & Internal Controls

  • Own the company's 404(b) SOX compliance program in partnership with external auditors and advisors
  • Design, document, and maintain key controls across the close, equity, and procure-to-pay cycles
  • Prepare and organize control evidence to support internal and external testing
  • Identify and remediate control gaps proactively as the company scales

Audit Readiness

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the external audit, managing the PBC list and auditor requests
  • Maintain a state of continuous audit readiness — clean reconciliations, documented judgments, organized workpapers
  • Coordinate with tax advisors on year-end tax provision support and related deliverables
  • Partner with the SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting team to ensure close outputs are complete and accurate for external reporting

Team Leadership & Development

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a small accounting team and/or outsourced resources
  • Provide hands-on coaching to build technical accounting, close, and reporting capabilities
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Scale the team thoughtfully as the company grows, balancing internal hires and external support

Qualifications:

  • At least 6 years of progressive accounting experience; including experience working in or with clinical stage biotech or the life sciences companies
  • CPA required
  • At least 2 years of public company 404(b) SOX and close experience required; SEC reporting exposure a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of ASC718 (SBC) and clinical trial accrual accounting
  • Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills, and the ability to operate in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

This position will be based out of our Wellesley, MA office. Base salary offered may vary depending on the individual’s skills, experience, and competitive market value. Additional total rewards include discretionary annual bonus, comprehensive benefits to include Medical, Dental and Vision, Life & Disability, 401k company match, generous paid time off, and equity.
